This group of adhesives is used as a single-component system. The special thing about this is that the hardener reaction only takes place in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic) and in the presence of metal ions, for example when the adhesive is sealed off from the ambient air in a narrow metallic joint. Only metallic materials can be bonded with it. Since free metal ions are required as reaction partners for curing, at least one joining partner must be capable of releasing free metal ions. The use of an activator is recommended for metal-non-metal bonding. Particularly metals with high passive properties, such as chromium and stainless steels, may be misglued due to the lack of ions. Bondings of this type ensure the mechanical connection of the metal parts. By sealing the juncture, it also protects against corrosion.
